While assisted dying remains illegal in France, Belgium decriminalized and regulated euthanasia more than twenty years ago. The documentary Euthanasia, the Final Journey, directed by Simon Wohlfahrt, retraces the journey of French patients who use Belgian intermediaries and doctors to end their lives with dignity across the border. Following the poster I had the pleasure of designing and illustrating for FACTSTORY, I art-directed and animated a short film for the documentary, which, like the poster, posed a simple yet delicate question: how to represent absence on screen?
